Four figures stood in the great hall of the long-dead lord's manor. The decrepit old place overlooked a small village about half a day's walk away and the looming presence of the place terrified it's inhabitants. On many a cold, dark night, the people would look up to it and despair like they were looking upon a grand monument to a tyrant. Travelers wondered, perhaps naively, what it was that was so frightening about the old place, but the truth was, it wasn't the stereotypically gothic architecture that scared them. Nor was it the way the moon silhouetted it when it was full. It wasn't even the way it forced itself into your vision when

All children face monsters in the dead of night. The monsters that their parents only see as shadows cast over a long and lonely wall by a dead and swaying tree. Shadows lurking menacingly over the headboard, from the innocent toy in front of the night-light. Shadows hinting at unknown horrors as the house creaks an moans. To their parents these monsters are shadows, but to the children, those shadows truly are demons and night terrors.
It's in this dichotomy that the grim truth lies. Parents know that the monsters are shadows and their children know they are being stalked, but in reality, both are right. At once there is a monster und
The nature of magic as understood by those in the Swords and Sorcery age were, in a word, primitive. It's easy to divide the different types up by elements in order to better classify and study each individual spell. In truth, there were things that they got right, but their entire mindset was wrong, bordering on barbaric. Indeed, the philosophy of those legendary mages lacked a logic such to make one wonder how they reached such pinnacles of power.
It was through the non-arcane sciences that we truly found the perspective that we needed to truly understand what we were doing. A look at the vast void around us and the minute void within
The environment around you is an abandoned warehouse, rusty and damp. The reason for it's disuse is unclear, but it is, for the most part, empty. Chipping away is the blue paint on the concrete and steel walls and you can hear the at once steady and unsteady drips of water falling down through the roof, creating a quiet cacophony. That much is obvious, you know that it recently rained, though now the sun shines through the door you thoughtlessly left open.

Magic has come a long way since the prehistoric beginnings. Of the shamanic magics, and Dark Age witchcraft, the practitioners themselves knowing little about what they were actually doing, knowing only that certain mixes of ingredients done in a particular way would yield interesting and useful results. The field took on more meaning during the renaissance with the Wizards of Florence. Of course, as we all know now, what those men practiced was little more than a dressed up version of the old witches "newt's eye" an
The knife dripped blood, The sole "survivor" panted heavily in the darkness, the scent of iron and sweat hanging in the air. The room was stained forever, but that was the least of his worries. Sirens could be heard in the distance, but he stood in the middle of the room gathering his breath. After all, he'd just wore himself out. His name was Jeff, Jeff the Killer if you're looking for a title as well as an apt description. Of course, it didn't do any justice to his face. Jeff the Killer had no eyelids or lips, an unrelenting gaze staring out over a grim grin.
On the floor were the mutilated corpses of a young man and woman, newlyweds
I sit alone, huddled in the darkness. The dark, the light, it really doesn't matter anymore, I take no solace or security in either as neither is ever safe. For eight, long years I have been pursued by Him, that... Thing! Faceless, yet seeing and monstrous in its slender form. It has tormented me for so long, but where others have fallen, my friends and family, anybody close, I have retained my grasp on the world, although my perception has surely changed.
He, no It, has followed me for so long. I have seen friends go mad and murderous and the mutilated corpses of my family. That was, of course, when they didn't just disappear entirely

Sugarkitt3n, an artist here on Deviantart who has done a commission for me (with another that I am slowly working up the money for) is doing a cool raffle right now. It sounds like she might do another in the future, but honestly, she's a good artist with very interesting stylistic choices that I think more people should be following.
He art looks like delicious, carefully created candy that I just want to eat so bad.
I am getting a little tired of Haiku. I know that it's National Haiku Writing Month (I believe that's the title), but I am just not as enthused as others about Haiku. It's a very specific type of poetry that's most distinct because of it's unique structure. 17 sounds (syllables, usually) in three lines altogether, 5 in the 1st and 3rd and 7 in the 2nd. It hails from Japan, therefore having significant cultural significance in that country. However, I do not sympathize with the Western love of Haiku.
Understand that I do not dislike the Haiku, towards the poetry itself, I am neutral, but in the same way that Western civilization appropri
